2010 Integrated Security Unit

Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit

Vancouver 2010 OlympicsThe Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (V2010 ISU) was established to maintain current levels of public safety and security, and to oversee the right to peaceful democratic protest during the 2010 Games. The unit will be responsible for these concerns in the Metro Vancouver area, in Whistler and throughout the Sea to Sky corridor. V2010 ISU is an integrated model consisting of members from the Vancouver Police Department, the West Vancouver Police Department, the Department of National Defence and is headed up by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Active since 2003, the V2010 ISU collaborates on security planning with the Vancouver Organizing Committee and many other partners, including all levels of government and community leaders.

Building relationships with communities, First Nations and stakeholders is another key focus for the V2010 ISU. The unit's Community Relations Group hopes to create an environment of cooperation that will be truly reflective of the concerns of all the communities involved.

West Vancouver Police Department's Involvement

The District of West Vancouver, an official Venue City for the 2010 Games is one of the communities that have embraced the Olympic spirit. It is very appropriate that the West Vancouver Police Department (WVPD) is proudly represented on the V2010 ISU. Currently the WVPD has two Inspectors, and two Constables serving with the V2010 ISU. The WVPD members bring with them their unique area knowledge of the people and geography of the community in which they serve. The WVPD has committed the services of the seconded members through to the conclusion of the Games.

"Securing the best Winter Games ever as partners in safety, peace and celebration", is the vision of the V2010 ISU. The WVPD members are committed to making that vision a reality.
