| Stolen Auto Arrest - Shots Fired |
Two people are in West Vancouver Police custody facing several charges after an arrest involving two stolen vehicles and an officer firing shots as a suspect rammed vehicles and drove toward him.
At approximately 11:15pm Monday night, a West Vancouver police officer in an unmarked vehicle began following a suspected stolen car eastbound in the 1300 block of Marine Dr. As the vehicle entered North Vancouver, a pickup truck was observed to be travelling in tandem with the suspected stolen car.
Both vehicles turned north from Marine Drive onto Tatlow Road in North Vancouver. Responding officers positioned police cruisers in an attempt to contain the suspect vehicles at the end of a cul-de-sac.
The driver of the pickup truck began ramming the vehicle back and forth attempting to force his way out of the containment. The suspect driver did manage to force the pickup truck between a parked car and a police vehicle, and then accelerated directly toward an officer approaching on foot. Fearing for his life, the officer drew his pistol and fired two shots at the approaching vehicle as he jumped from the vehicles path.
The truck continued past striking several more parked cars. The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned on a nearby dead end street. The area was contained with assistance of North Vancouver RCMP.
A suspect male was subsequently found and arrested by RCMP officers in the 1500 block of Bowser Avenue.
Investigators have confirmed the suspect driver was not struck by either shot. Both rounds have been accounted for in the vehicle and investigators have confirmed no injuries resulted from the shots being fired.
A female driver of the stolen car also attempted to drive past the police containment but was blocked by a police vehicle and arrested.
A 39 year old Surrey man and a 17 year old female youth from Coquitlam are being held in custody at West Vancouver Police Headquarters for a first court appearance at North Vancouver Provincial Court later today. The investigation remains very active. Police will recommend several charges. |
