A West Vancouver man is facing a second charge of Impaired Driving in less than a week after being found behind the wheel Wednesday with police investigators determining he was under the influence of Heroin.

Shortly after 11am Wednesday morning a West Vancouver Patrol Officer checked a northbound vehicle on Taylor Way by the Trans Canada Highway after the driver failed to respond to a change in traffic lights.

The driver initially appeared unresponsive, but was roused by the officer and identified as the same 34 year old man arrested by West Vancouver Police December 12, 2009.

After further investigation, including evaluation of the driver by a West Vancouver Officer with Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training, investigators determined the driver was under the influence of Heroin.

A quantity of Heroin was seized.

West Vancouver Police will recommend a new charge of Impaired Driving, along with charges of Breach of Undertaking, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The driver will be served with a 24 hour Driving Prohibition and a Provincial Violation ticket for "No Driver's Licence'.   He is being held at West Vancouver Police Headquarters for a court appearance Thursday morning.

In a similar incident Saturday, callers reported a vehicle colliding with the roadside barricades crossing Lions Gate Bridge.  Officers found the vehicle stopped, with the driver unresponsive near Taylor Way and Marine Drive.  West Vancouver Police are recommending an impaired driving charge in relation to that incident..
